What is a synthetic persona?

Synthetic personas are AI-modeled profiles of your target audience, built with psychological depth. They respond to your content the way a specific type of user would — and deliver reviews with reasoned, quotable feedback in minutes. They complement real user research; they don't replace it.

Every Persona is carefully built — from eight psychological layers, grounded in established personality and behavioral research (including Big Five and Kahneman/Tversky). Not a chatbot thrown together in a hurry.

  • 1 Biography Life story, occupation, environment
  • 2 Psychology (OCEAN) Personality profile — what makes them tick
  • 3 Cognitive Biases Typical reasoning errors and their triggers
  • 4 Emotional State Baseline mood and what tips it
  • 5 Cultural Context Values, Life-World, cultural background
  • 6 Behavior Everyday life, media, decision style
  • 7 Anti-Patterns What this person rejects or avoids
  • 8 Language Style, dialect, tolerance for anglicisms

“Why not just ask ChatGPT?”

ChatGPT can give you a quick take — and for plenty of things, that's enough. But if you want to test your actual target audience, a fixed frame helps: with Radical Personas, you pick specific, consistent profiles — each with a biography, values, and a decision style — that always judge by the same criteria. That makes results comparable: across multiple Personas and across repeated tests.

§ II The Difference

Test before you post — instead of sinking in the feed.

A post your audience scrolls right past costs you reach — and you often only notice days later, when the numbers disappoint. With synthetic personas, you get the feedback before the post goes live.

Time to results
Posting live in the feed Days until data
Radical Personas about 20 min
Cost per test
Posting live in the feed Reach & ad spend
Radical Personas < €2

Real reach and engagement data carry a weight a synthetic test can’t replace — the time and cost advantage applies above all to early iteration, before the post goes live. Comparison is illustrative; it doesn’t replace real audience feedback. Bars are schematic.

“In the feed, you get one second of my attention. Your image stopped me — but then the copy reads like an ad announcement, not a real voice. That’s exactly where I drop off. I show you those spots before they go live.”

§ III Results

What you actually get.

Each selected Persona reviews your social media post against these criteria — with a Score and a reasoned quote explaining what works and what doesn’t:

  • First impression while scrolling The spontaneous impression in the first second or two in the feed.
  • Scroll stop Does the post actually make someone stop scrolling for a closer look?
  • Message clarity How clearly and understandably does the post’s message come across?
  • Visual design How appealing are the image or graphic and the text layout?
  • Personal relevance Does the post connect with the person’s job, interests, and daily life?
  • Emotional response What feelings does the post evoke — and why?
  • Engagement Would this person interact — like, comment, share, or save?
  • Authenticity & credibility How authentic and credible do the post and its sender come across?
  • Overall score An overall Score (1–10) from each Persona’s perspective.

6.0/10
Why only 6.0 out of 10?
The visual draws me in — I do pause on it. But the caption sounds like off-the-shelf advertising, and in the feed I scroll past anything that doesn’t feel real. I wouldn’t have liked or shared it.
What would make you share it?
A real voice instead of marketing speak. Tell me concretely what’s in it for me, in the first few words — and make it sound like a person wrote it, not a briefing.
What did you like?
The visual language. It’s considered and fits your aesthetic — that genuinely stops me mid-scroll. That same care is just still missing from the copy.

In the Persona test, the young trainee instructor and the mid-career switcher debate our course page at the same time — and they thoroughly disagree. Exactly the friction we need before the season starts, not once the course is underway.

Where the method hits its limits

§ VI Questions

Common questions about social media testing.

What is a synthetic persona?

A synthetic persona is an AI-modeled profile of a target audience, built with psychological depth. It responds to a social media post the way a specific type of user would in their feed — and delivers a Review with reasoned, quotable feedback. At Radical Personas, every Persona is built from eight psychological layers (including biography, Big Five personality, cognitive biases, and culture) — not a one-line prompt. Synthetic personas complement real audience feedback; they don’t replace it.

How accurate are synthetic personas?

Synthetic personas reach ≈85% replication accuracy, benchmarked against the test-retest reliability of human self-responses (Stanford HAI, Park et al., 2024 — preprint, n=1,052). Adoption points the same way: 73% of market researchers already use synthetic responses (Qualtrics 2025). Every Review at Radical Personas states its reasons, and the scientific foundation is documented with sources.

Do synthetic personas replace real audience feedback?

No. Synthetic personas deliver fast, reasoned audience feedback and complement the real reactions from your community — they don’t replace them for final validation. They represent average perspectives more reliably than extreme positions.

How much does it cost to test a social media post?

The free plan costs nothing: 2 Reviews per month, no credit card. Paid plans start from €29/month. A single Review costs under €3 — a weak post that sinks in the feed, on the other hand, costs you reach and, in the worst case, paid ad budget.

How long does a social media post test take?

About 20 minutes from upload to finished PDF report — and you don’t have to stay at your desk while it runs. Instead of publishing the post and waiting days for reach data, you see the audience feedback before it goes live.

Which post formats can I test?

You add the post as an image or as text — say, a feed image, a graphic, or a Reel cover with its caption. Each selected Persona reviews the first impression while scrolling, the scroll stop, clarity, design, relevance, emotion, engagement, and authenticity and credibility from its perspective.

Which personas review my post?

From over 60 fully developed synthetic personas, you choose the ones that match your target audience. Each has its own background, media habits, and decision style — and reviews your post from that perspective.

Can I use Radical Personas as an agency or for client projects?

Yes. You test any post you are authorized to use and pass the PDF report on to your clients. From the Pro plan (up), you get White-label PDFs (your logo instead of ours) and team accounts — built for agencies and client work. For larger volumes, talk to us.
