What is a synthetic persona?

Synthetic personas are AI-modeled profiles of your target audience, built with psychological depth. They respond to your content the way a specific type of user would — and deliver reviews with reasoned, quotable feedback in minutes. They complement real user research; they don't replace it.

Every Persona is carefully built — from eight psychological layers, grounded in established personality and behavioral research (including Big Five and Kahneman/Tversky). Not a chatbot thrown together in a hurry.

  • 1 Biography Life story, occupation, environment
  • 2 Psychology (OCEAN) Personality profile — what makes them tick
  • 3 Cognitive Biases Typical reasoning errors and their triggers
  • 4 Emotional State Baseline mood and what tips it
  • 5 Cultural Context Values, Life-World, cultural background
  • 6 Behavior Everyday life, media, decision style
  • 7 Anti-Patterns What this person rejects or avoids
  • 8 Language Style, dialect, tolerance for anglicisms

“Why not just ask ChatGPT?”

ChatGPT can give you a quick take — and for plenty of things, that's enough. But if you want to test your actual target audience, a fixed frame helps: with Radical Personas, you pick specific, consistent profiles — each with a biography, values, and a decision style — that always judge by the same criteria. That makes results comparable: across multiple Personas and across repeated tests.

§ II The difference

Put your product idea in front of your target audience before launch — instead of chasing expensive market research after the fact.

A product that misses what your target audience needs costs development time, budget, and a launch — and you often find out only when sales fail to show up. With synthetic personas, you get the feedback before launch.

Time to results
Traditional market research 42 days avg.
Radical Personas about 20 min
Cost per test
Traditional market research €2,000–15,000
Radical Personas < €2

Traditional studies deliver a depth that a synthetic test doesn’t replace — the time and cost advantage applies above all to early iteration. Time figure: Dscout, survey of 300+ UX researchers (average). Bars are schematic.

“Tell me plainly: what problem does this product solve, and does the value match the price? If that isn’t stated clearly, it’s just a buzzword to me — and I stop testing right there. Those are exactly the gaps I’ll show you before your users walk away.”

§ III Result

What you actually get.

Every Persona you select reviews your product against these criteria — with a Score and a reasoned quote on what convinces them and what falls flat:

  • First impression The spontaneous impression the product makes in the first seconds.
  • Clarity of the product description How clear is it what the product does and who it’s for?
  • Need & problem Does the product solve a real problem or meet a genuine need?
  • Personal relevance Does the product fit the person’s job, daily life, and interests?
  • Value for money How does the price-to-value ratio hold up, given each persona’s financial situation?
  • Trust Would the person trust the product — and the company behind it?
  • Emotional response What feelings does the product trigger — and why?
  • Purchase likelihood How likely is the person to actually buy the product?
  • Overall score A total Score (1–10) from each Persona’s personal perspective.

“Technically solid, no question — but what concrete problem does this solve in my daily work, and does the price match the benefit? Until that’s stated clearly, it stays marketing-speak, and I stop testing.”

6.0/10
Why only 6.0 out of 10?
Technically it’s well made, I’ll grant you that. But nowhere do I read what concrete problem it takes off my plate — and the price stands there with nothing behind it. As long as the benefit and the value for money stay unclear, that’s a middle-of-the-road score, nothing more.
What would it take to convince you?
One sober sentence that names the problem, two real use cases, and a price that matches the benefit. Show me with facts that it saves me effort — then I’ll test it myself instead of taking your word for it.
What makes you drop out immediately?
Buzzwords and “100% guaranteed” promises with no substance. When the hard details are missing or hidden in the fine print, I know enough. Stay factual, back up the benefit and the value for money — that convinces me.

Where the method hits its limits

Synthetic personas represent average perspectives — not edge cases, and not real conversion data. For final validation, there is no way around real users. Synthetic personas complement real user research — they don't replace it.

§ VI Questions

Common questions about product concept testing.

What is a synthetic persona?

Synthetic personas are AI-modeled profiles of your target audience, built with psychological depth. They respond to a product the way a specific type of buyer would — and deliver a Review with reasoned, quotable feedback. At Radical Personas, every Persona is built from eight psychological layers (including biography, Big Five personality, cognitive biases, and culture) — not a one-line prompt. They complement real market research; they don’t replace it.

How accurate are synthetic personas?

AI personas achieve ≈85% replication accuracy, benchmarked against the test-retest reliability of human self-responses (Stanford HAI, Park et al., 2024 — preprint, n=1,052). Adoption tells a similar story: 73% of market researchers already use synthetic responses (Qualtrics 2025). Every Review at Radical Personas is reasoned and traceable, and the scientific foundation is documented with sources.

Do synthetic personas replace real market research?

No. Synthetic personas deliver fast, reasoned target-audience feedback and complement real market research — they don’t replace it for final validation. They represent average perspectives more strongly than extreme positions.

How much does it cost to test a product idea?

The free plan costs nothing (2 Reviews per month, no credit card). Paid plans start from €29/month. A single Review costs under €3 — traditional market research runs €2,000–€15,000 per study.

How long does a product test take?

About 20 minutes from uploading your product description to the finished PDF report — you don’t have to stay at the screen while it runs. Traditional UX research projects take 42 days on average (Dscout, survey of 300+ UX researchers).

Can I test a product idea that doesn’t exist yet?

Yes. You provide the product description — anything from a finished product to a pure idea, for example as landing page copy, a feature list, or a concept pitch. The Personas review whether the product solves a real problem, whether the description is clear, and how likely they would be to buy. That way you validate the idea before you build it.

Which personas review my product?

You choose the ones that match your target audience from over 60 fully developed synthetic personas — most grounded in the German-speaking (DACH) market, plus international profiles. Each has its own background, occupation, financial situation, and decision style, and reviews your product from that perspective.

Can I use Radical Personas as an agency or for client projects?

Yes. You test any product you’re authorized to test and pass the PDF report on to your clients. From the Pro plan (up), you get White-label PDFs (your logo instead of ours) and team accounts — built for agencies and client work. For larger volumes, talk to us.
